Sarcastic tone
To determine which products get positive reviews and which ones receive negative ones, we used the sarcastic tone found in Amazon reviews. We evaluated 5000 reviews and classified them as "Sarcastic," or "Nonsarcastic". Then, we divided those reviews according to their sarcastic tone into five categories. Results show that products with a sarcastic tone have a lower likelihood of being reviewed positively than those with neutral tones.
This study is based upon two-star reviews which demonstrate the classifier’s greatest performance. Reviews with a rating of 2 stars were used, as they showed the best recall and precision. The same dataset was used to identify sarcasm, but we also used reviews that were less supportive. We found that 2 star reviews had a sarcastic tone, which was higher than the other reviews.
